North Korea settles to talk with its neighbors after South Korea postponed the military drills with United States.

Earlier, today North Korea has announced to hold official talks with their neighbor and arch rival South Korea. The meeting of the representatives will be held in coming Week for the first time in two years. Given that, North Korea has halted its program to the existing level till the talks.

Both of the parties held talks in December 2015 last time.

South Korean Unification Ministry has informed the reporters about the meeting. The Spokesman added that the meeting will take place at the border truce village named Panmunjom where both of the neighbors will be discussing about the winter Olympics, which are going to be held in South Korea and about the inter-Korean relations. Al though, the delegates who will carry the bilateral talks are yet to be confirmed.

Kim Jong-un’s Stance

North Korean leader has condensed the tensions as he indicated in his new year’s speech about the possible negotiations. Additionally, he marked the option about North’s possible appearance in the winter games.

Meanwhile, Kim still backs the nuclear and missile program saying that his country needs it for operational and defense purposes. Similarly, he adds that the threats will permit him to launch a nuclear attack.

The North still takes the US-Korean alliance as a possible threat to invade. Not to mention, South Korea and US are still at war with the North Korea after the 1950-53 war, which ended as a cease-fire and not as a peace treaty. The 38th Parallel line is still the bone of contention considered by the Northern side.

What Donald Trump thinks

Moreover, President Donald Trump and his South Korean counterpart have announced yesterday that drills would now take place after the winter Olympics.

Donald Trump, who earlier used to insult the North Korean leader, is now taking the credit of any possible dialogue happening in near future. In fact, in his recent tweet he firmly said that the upcoming dialogue between both of the nations is the commitment of his determination and willingness. Additionally, he gives credit to his threat to use might as a peculiar strategy which bounded North Koreans to come over the table.

Japan’s caution

Japanese Defense minister, Itsunori Onodera declared a statement to be foresighted about the talks. He emphasized not to derail over the defensive posture and also to maintain it, he told reporters in Tokyo.

“Al though, North Korea is going through the dialogues, still it is continuing its missile program and nuclear developments. In case, we have no intention to weakening our surveillance.”

Chinese reaction

Geng Shuang, the Spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry has welcomed the steps by saying it is a positive gesture by both of the states to improve the ties. He added that postponement of military drills is without any doubt a good nod.

On the whole, the gesture shown by the states is applauded by other countries. The future of the region lies to decrease the tensions and misunderstandings between the regional giants. The whole world is looking towards the possible dialogues.
